Plate Tectonics

                                             Critical Thinking Question.

I agree with the theory of Plate Tectonics because If  plates didn't move we wouldn't have volcanoes , earthquakes and tsunamis.  Here is the evidence:
The theory of plate tectonics was developed in the 1960's. This theory explains the movement of the Earth's plates and also explains the cause of earthquakes, volcanoes, oceanic trenches, mountain range formation, and many other geologic phenomenon.
The plates are moving at a speed that has been estimated at 1 to 10 cm per year. Most of the Earth's seismic activity occurs at the plate boundaries as they meet each other.    In 1915, the German geologist and meteorologist Alfred Wegener (1880-1930) first proposed the theory of continental drift, which states that parts of the Earth's crust slowly drift atop a liquid core. The fossil record supports and gives credence to the theories of continental drift and plate tectonics. Wegener noticed that the continents seemed to fit together, not at the continuously changing shoreline, but at the edge to their continental shelves.  He derived this hypothesis from the observation that the continents in the southern hemisphere exhibit an identical pattern of rock and fossils known as the "Gondwana sequence".  The most logical explanation was that the continents themselves were once parts of a much larger  which was named Pangaea.                            Another idea supporting movement of the continents was the glacial till deposits in the southern hemisphere.  With the continents in their present positions, the till deposits indicate erratic glacier motion. When the continents are fitted together, they show a much more streamlined motion of the glacier from southern Africa and Northern Australia outward.
Many fossil comparisons along the edges of continents that look like they fit together suggest species similarities that would only make sense if the two continents were joined at some point in the past.
In my opinion Plate Tectonic Theory is true, because if plates didn't move we wouldn't have earthquakes, volcanoes and tsunamis. As you can see all the evidence supports the theory and it seems to be true.

                                                          Reflection Questions.

1) What did you enjoy most about this project and why?

I enjoyed that in this project we had choices such as music video, foldables, prediction map and etc. So we could choose something that we are really interested in and learn something new at the same time.

2) What was most challenging for you during this project and why?

The most challenging part for me during this project was that at some stations we had two activities and I had to use my time wisely. So that was the most challenging part but everything went well.

3) What new skills did you learn from doing this project?

The new skills that I learned was making a video and creative foldables.

4) Is there anything that you could have done to improve any of your work? Explain.

If I had a chance to do my work again I would make presentation for the class more creative.

5) What would you change about this project?

The thing that I would change about this project is that I would make up another stations too because some people that I know didn't really get this project so it will help them to understand better.

Spring Tides

                                                                     Vocabulary

Tides            - when sea levels rises up and down caused  by movement of the moon.(volna)

волна
Phases of the Moon  -when moon changes it's shapes. (фазы луны)

Lunar Revolution  -when the moon revolves around the earth. (лунные революции)

Lunar Revolution length    -the moon's rotation on Earth and one turn on its axis is 23.7 days. ( длина лунного обращения )                                                                                                                        Water Level        - when the water is high or low it's called water level. ( уровень воды )

Sea Level             - when the water doesn't change it is called sea level. Sea Level is always equal to 0.
 (уровень моря )

Gravitational force from the  - when gravity holds the moon on Earth.(гравитационная сила с луны на
moon to Earth                         землю.)

Spring Tides     - when the water is high higher and low lower. ( сизигии )

                                                                         Summary

Our topic is a Spring Tides.Spring Tides is when the water is higher than high water and lower than low water. Lunar Revolution causes spring tides, because while moon is revolving around the sun it causes gravity so oceans on the earth would follow the moon. It is also called tides when the water on the earth follow the moon. During Spring Tides the phases of the moon are New Moon and the Full Moon. Water Level changes when moon is revolving around the earth. The sea level is always stays the same, which means it doesn't change. Spring Tides are caused by gravitational force from the moon to earth and makes higher high water and lower low water. Now we know more about the spring tides and we hope to teach others.

                                                         Critical Question
How is Earth affected by movement (revolution) ?
Earth is affected by movement because it gets sunlight by moving around the sun and by that earth's season's change. The movement of the earth affects year to change which takes 365 days. Earth's movement creates variations in temperature, weather, and the seasons.

                                                                   Reflection
1) What did you enjoy most about this project and why?   I liked recording video the most because it was interesting to hear my own voice and doing a video like this was something new to me.:)
2) What was the most challenging for you during this project and why?   The most challenging thing for me during this project was recording a video because not all the time everything came out perfect. :)
3) What new skills did you learn from doing this project?  The new skills that I learned from doing this project were skills such as talking loud and clear and also my drawing skills improved a little. :)
4) Is there anything that you could have done to improve any of your work? Explain.
The thing that I would improve  It's probably would be the drawing , I would add more colors to it and make it more visible , now it kind of looks too simple. :)
